For my mom's birthday, I wanted to make her something personal that she could carry with her anywhere she wanted. With my button maker in hand, I made a few designs for some buttons. I was born around the early 2000s and one of the things I find most nostalgic is flip phones, with this in mind I made her a graphic with a pink flip phone to put on a button so she could put it on anything she wanted.
In college, we had a class dedicated to making a game in a few months. I was tasked with creating a lot of the assets. As a group, we discussed the characters and landed on a Monkey as a boss. As I played with ideas for the character's design, I was intrigued by a Chinese dragon-inspired monkey boss. I was happy with how the boss came out and ended up animating an intro scene with him, which required me to split the monkey boss into different parts to animate.
Around Christmas, I didn’t have much money to buy all my family members their gifts. Instead with the help of my mom's heat press, I made one of my cousins a Pokemon design for a keychain as he loves Pokemon as a franchise. I found out what his favourite Pokemon was and I started a design for his keychain right away, finishing it within that day. I expected him to choose a simpler Pokemon but he ended up wanting a very complicated design and I was impressed with myself for getting it done in such a timely manner.
As a gift for our friendship, I wanted to make one of my long-time friends a button. I knew that his favourite character was Rem from Rezero so I got to work designing a cute chibi version of that character. After I had sketched out a few designs in Procreate, I transferred it to Illustrator and tweaked it until I was happy with how it looked. I used Illustrator for the vector aspect to size it down to fit the button without losing the much-needed quality. I loved how the colours came out and I'm proud of this illustration.
In college, we had a lot of helpful and amazing professors, but one stood out in particular. Tanya is a very attentive professor who is extremely understanding and kind-hearted. Because of this, I wanted to give back to her for all the hard work she put in to help us succeed. One of her favourite things ever is unicorns and I thought, what better way to make something than to draw her AS a unicorn herself? With the help of Illustrator, my button maker and my mom's heat press I made her a keychain and a few buttons.
During my internship, I was tasked with a lot of different projects. The project I was most proud of was the workshop poster I had made for MagrathArts. At first, it was a struggle to figure out what they initially wanted and I scraped an entirely different idea of a singer on the stage, as I was under the impression that it was a singing concert poster. Fortunately, I got more clarity and made a new poster that matched their initial idea more closely.
